How Can You Prevent Damp Walls During The Monsoon?

Monsoon season is something that most of us love. The cold breezy rains, soothing soil smell, windy environment what not! Showers bring moisture with them, which is not so good for your beautiful house.

The water might seep through the exterior walls and can leave damp patches on the interior walls. Furthermore, water seepage and accumulation on the roofs and terraces are not healthy and beautiful looking for your house. Moreover, during the monsoon season, the groundwater level may rise and cause severe problems for your home base. Thus, the house owner should not only prevent getting theirwalls damp-proof with waterproofing solution for water leakage but also should know about how can they reduce the effects of rains on their walls and roofs.

 Continuous water leakage, if not cured and treated in time, can cause disastrous issues for the owner by affecting the structure and base of the house. So, to know more about how you can prevent your walls from dampness, you should keep reading this article.

Some essential ways in which you can prevent dampness of the walls:-

1. Damp proof course installation before construction of the walls:-

A damp proof course should be immediately installed during the construction of the house as it establishes a barrier between the home and the groundwater seepage above the ground.

As you might have noticed, if you haven't installed a damp proof course in your house, the bottom portion of your walls is wet and leakages. Thus, to prevent dampness caused due to groundwater rising. You must consult an expert professional and get your house installed with a damp proof course.

Ventilation is also essential in preventing dampness in the house. To keep your home free from black moulds, fungus and other respiratory diseases such as asthma, allergies etc.

You must keep your house well-ventilated and apply two to three coats ofwaterproofing solution for salts &molds to prevent these diseases.

If you notice any such growth of moulds or fungus on your walls, you can wash or dry rub the walls with a cloth. You can also apply a mixture of bleach and water to the affected area and wash it after few hours of drying.

2. Exterior walls waterproofing solution for wall dampness:-

Waterproofing exterior walls are of utmost importance to prevent water seepage into the interior walls. Rains cause the outer wall paints to deteriorate. So, to prevent dampness waterproofing solution for paint peel off should be applied to the exterior walls.

4. Providing proper drainage:-

You must ensure that your house has a proper drainage system and must be cleaned before the arrival of monsoon season. The improper drainage system, including leaking pipes, faulty joints, water tanks etc., can cause dampness in the walls of your house. So, the proper measure should be taken to prevent dampness occurrence in the walls.

  • Leaking pipes must be sealed with a silicone-based sealant, and also the cracks, if present, should also be packed.

  • Faulty and broken tiles present in the kitchen, bathroom or terraces should be removed and replaced with new ones before the onset of the monsoon to prevent seepage through them.

5. Filling the cracks with waterproofing solution:-

Before the monsoon arrives, you must check for the formation of the cracks in the house. Gaps must be identified and should be sealed with putty or by using any chemical-based sealant. Filling the cracks with a sealer will prevent water seepage. Also, after filling the gaps, you can paint the walls.
